Miguel Anaya is a Mexican-American multi-disciplinary, multi-media, visual and performance artist from Brownsville, Texas. He began his photographic career at ICP @ THE POINT (2003), and was awarded the Jocelyn Benzakin Fellowship (2005), The Howard Chapnick Award (2007) - for co-founding the NYC BRIDGE PROJECT and mentoring young photographers from Harlem and the Bronx. In 2010 he was invited to the Eddie Adams Workshop MMX. As a dancer/performance artist, he has performed with dance companys such as Bill.T. Jones Arnie/Zane Co. Mikhail Baryshnikov's White Oak Dance Project, Liz Gerring Dance Co. Q+SBB - Stefanie Batten Bland, PunchDrunk.org.uk Sleep no More. He was assistant choreographer to Bill.T.Jones on the Tony award winning Musical "Spring Awakening" in 2008.
Miguel currently lives and works in New York City.
My work is a visual travelogue of my journey through the subways. It is there that I witness the beauty of the city, it’s comedy, grit and glitter. Worlds that would otherwise be separate, collide in a sea of characters. While witnessing all this humanity, I am left wondering where it is that I fit in.
